The Youth Theater for Peace Program introduces new theater activities for youth in Batken and Chui regions aimed at conflict prevention. Young people will develop plays based on real situations occurring in their communities. They will learn to use theater to address important issues in today’s society, such as:

  • Living peacefully with one another;
  • Leading a healthy lifestyle;
  • Taking positive actions to improve their communities
YTP seeks adults (teachers, NGO workers, theater actors/musicians and others who work with youth) to learn new theater techniques and work with youth. An honorarium will be provided to selected participants. Travel to and from program events, and living expenses while at program events, will be paid by the YTP program. Participants will be selected on a competitive basis and must complete an application.

Selected participants will attend:
A Training of Trainers to learn how to teach the theater techniques

Participants who successfully complete the Training of Trainers will help lead:
Summer Theater Camps for Young People
The Youth Theater for Peace Program presents an excellent professional development opportunity.

Trainers will:
  • Receive hands-on training from international experts in the field of interactive theater.
  • Learn how theater may be used in the classroom to engage and motivate students (for teachers).
  • Learn how theater may be used in a wide variety of social programs.
  • Make new contacts with NGO workers/artists/educators from across the region and learn from one another’s best practices.
  • Learn/refine skills in grant-writing and grant management.
Post-camp tour funding will be available on a competitive basis for young people and their adult sponsors to perform their plays in additional communities in the region.
The Youth Theater for Peace Program is implemented by the International Research & Exchanges Board (IREX) and FTI.
